Magazine Newsstand Task
I have
taken this image in WHSmith in the music magazines section. From looking at
each of these music magazines, the first think that you notice is the bold
masthead that stands out for the majority of the magazines. The masthead is
really important as it’s the first thing a person sees when looking at the
magazine and it needs to be large enough to grab the reader’s attention and
also to make the magazine easier to find. These magazines are displayed in
rows, according to their genre. This is quite effective as people that look for
a certain magazine, can discover other interesting magazines of the same genre.
Some of the magazines also include CD and posters which is shown on the front
cover. These magazines are mainly placed at the front as it attracts the reader’s
attention and make them purchase the whole thing in order to get the CD’s or
posters. Thanks to this research, I now understand how magazines are
distributed and how they are displayed to persuade the audience to purchase
it. This has also helped me think about
how my masthead is going to be presented in order to grab the attention of the
audience.

Photoshoot
These are the photographs that I have taken during the photoshoot. The photoshoot took place on wednesday the 12th at 14:30. I have used the white backdrop so it contrasts with the model's outfit and makes her stand out. The fill light was on 4 which is the normal flash. The photoshoot went well as I have showed the model a few poses that rock stars usually tend to use so it made the whole experience easier.

Preliminary task - College Magazine (Planning)
This is a example of what the cover page of my magazine is going to look like. Planning where to place my conventions helps me get an overall view of what my magazine is going to look like and make any changes if needed. In addition, it save me a lot of time as I don't have to waste time arranging and rearranging everything over and over again. From a research i have found out that the bar code goes at the bottom and a secondary image should be used as it gives the viewer more of a insight of the magazine.

Photoshop practice
This is the first time I have used photoshop and this is what i have managed to produce. I have picked out a image of an artist and placed it on photoshop. I have learned how to blur the edge of the image using the paint brush and also how to add text and change the font and the size of it. This experience has helped me gain more experience with photoshop and have a clear understand it of it for when I'll have to use it in the future.

Evaluation for Induction Piece
My task for this assignment was to create a magazine article
which is focused on the negatives and positives of piracy. My research was done
on the internet, which made it extremely quick yet it was quite difficult to
find reliable sources. I had to research what piracy is and what do people
think about it. I then had to use my research to write an article about the
issue of piracy. After I finished writing my article, I had to research different
types of magazines and choose the one I want my article to be for. I have
chosen the Kerrang magazine because I read it frequently and I’ve also included
rock artist’s opinion in my article. Also I thought my article would best
relate to its target audience. I believe that my strength when researching is
that I concentrate on the issue so I only get information based on it. However,
my weakness when researching is that I find it difficult to put the information
in my own words and find reliable websites.
I have encountered some strengths and weaknesses with
journalisms whilst writing the article. My weaknesses are that I find it
difficult to concentrate on one paragraph and decide an order for the points I
make. However, my paragraphs are clear and easy to follow. My points also make
sense.
We had to use a software program called Adobe InDesign to
create a credible looking magazine article. At the beginning, InDesign seemed
really difficult yet throughout the making of the article I have learned and
developed many skills. I have learned how to use colour to make the article suitable
for the genre; I have used black and red as it is a rock magazine and these
colours are usually used in the kerrang magazine. One of my weaknesses was
adding images. I found it quite difficult to position them and make them look
suitable for the article. Another thing that I found difficult was organising
the order of the text boxes and placing them in certain places without going
over the margins.
I had to create a blog and publish my article. This took a
while as whenever I attempted to upload an image of my article it wouldn’t
work. However, I managed to upload my final article in the end by using Google
Chrome. I now find blogger really easy to utilize.
I have created a questionnaire for my classmates to help me
improve my article and get different opinions on it. Most of my classmates said
that I have used suitable colours and images and that it looks aesthetically
pleasing. Some of them advised me to add page number to make my article look
more professional.
My targets for the future are: to upload everything onto my blog straight
after finishing the task, use UK websites instead of US websites when
researching as it makes my work more reliable, organise the images better to
make them look a lot more professional and less copied of the internet, learn
how to use the majority of the tools on InDesign in order to work quicker on
the layout.
