Magazine Newsstand Task

I have taken this image in WHSmith in the music magazines section. From looking at each of these music magazines, the first think that you notice is the bold masthead that stands out for the majority of the magazines. The masthead is really important as it’s the first thing a person sees when looking at the magazine and it needs to be large enough to grab the reader’s attention and also to make the magazine easier to find. These magazines are displayed in rows, according to their genre. This is quite effective as people that look for a certain magazine, can discover other interesting magazines of the same genre. Some of the magazines also include CD and posters which is shown on the front cover. These magazines are mainly placed at the front as it attracts the reader’s attention and make them purchase the whole thing in order to get the CD’s or posters. Thanks to this research, I now understand how magazines are distributed and how they are displayed to persuade the audience to purchase it.  This has also helped me think about how my masthead is going to be presented in order to grab the attention of the audience.
